The introductory module includes the structure for teaching Chinese internationally, the history of teaching Chinese, teaching theory, teaching approaches, pedagogy, overall lesson planning, choice of teaching materials, and basic theories of testing and assessment. The other four modules relate to the key factors of language distinguished by systematically teaching Chinese pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, Chinese character theory and basic knowledge. In addition, utilizing many examples, different teaching principles and methods used in the teaching of different languages are introduced, as well as teaching techniques and special tips. The differences and difficulties faced by students of different nationalities are introduced as are the different methods and appropriate approach. These modules will assist new teachers or non-teachers wishing to follow a career in teaching Chinese as a foreign language to understand the foundations of the Chinese language and to master the basic teaching methods and techniques.
Introduction to TCFL
The course is an Introduction to the teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Topics include the framework, history, teaching theories, teaching modes, teaching methodology, overall design of curriculum, textbook choosing, assignment and evaluation of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.
Chinese Pronunciation and Its Teaching Methodology
This course focuses on how to teach Chinese pronunciation. Topics include the basic vocabulary knowledge, teaching principles and methodology, key points and common difficulties, techniques and cases in the teaching of Chinese pronunciation, as well as the analysis on characteristics of students from different countries.
Chinese Characters and Their Teaching Methodology
This course focuses on how to teach Chinese Characters. Topics include the basic knowledge, teaching principles and methodology, emphasis and difficulty in teaching, teaching techniques and cases of teaching of Chinese characters, as well as the analysis on characteristics of students from different countries.
Chinese Vocabulary and Its Teaching Methodology
This course focuses on how to teach Chinese Vocabulary. Topics include Chinese vocabulary, principles and methods, key points and common difficulties, teaching techniques and cases of teaching of Chinese vocabulary, as well as the analysis on characteristics of students from different countries.
Chinese Grammar and Its Teaching Methodology
This course focuses on how to teach Chinese grammar. Topics include the basic knowledge, teaching principles and methodology, emphasis and difficulty in teaching, teaching techniques and cases of teaching of Chinese grammar, as well as the analysis on characteristics of students from different countries.
ICTP Package B: Comprehensive Skills Courses
Through a large number of lectures and case study materials, these modules give instruction about the principles, methods and skills for teaching listening, speaking, reading and writing Chinese; the basic principles regarding Chinese classroom activity design are introduced together with popular teaching activities and games, as well as teaching design methods and the creation of teaching plans; the basic principles and approaches to classroom organization and management as well as the related techniques are also covered together with a basic knowledge and principles of Chinese culture and Intercultural communication and their relationship with the teaching of Chinese. How to obtain, process, produce and use modern educational technologies in the teaching of Chinese language and how to use digital Chinese teaching resources to enhance the efficiency and outcomes of the teaching are addressed together with how to effect distance education etc. These modules will support in establishing a foundation of knowledge in this discipline, they will provide teaching experiences, and we believe will improve the quality of Chinese language teachers and others interested in gaining these skills.
Teaching Chinese Language Skills
This is a comprehensive course about the teaching of Chinese Language Skills. It covers the teaching principles and training techniques of Chinese listening, speaking, reading, writing and compound skill courses, as well as the characteristics and teaching methodology of these courses.
Chinese Classroom Activity Design
This course focuses on how to plan Chinese classroom teaching activities, including the basic principles, methods of teaching design, teaching plan writing and commonly used teaching activities and games of Chinese classes, as well as analysis of typical Chinese class cases.
Classroom Organization and Management
This course consists of the basic principles and methodology of class organizing and management. Classroom language usage, body language of the teacher, classroom organizational discipline, methods of correcting the students and the motivating the students of Chinese classes are taught in the form of case studies.
Chinese Culture and Intercultural Communication
This course covers Chinese history, geography, culture, national conditions of China and as the auxiliary function of Chinese traditional talents in Chinese classes as well. It also examines the basic principles and case analysis of intercultural communication, and its relationship with Chinese teaching as well.
Modern Educational Technologies and Application of Digital Resources
This course focuses on the application of modern educational technologies and digital resources in TCFL. Topics include the principles, designing and making of Chinese teaching courseware, the acquisition and utilization of Chinese teaching resources, three-dimensional Chinese textbooks, digital Chinese teaching modes and the corresponding teaching cases, as well as online Chinese teaching system and the use of commonly used software in Chinese teaching.
